Margarita Tops The List Of America’s Favorite Cocktail: Happy National Margarita Day! (Recipe)

With the first day of spring just around the corner (March 20th 2017), what better way to get in the spirit of the season than to celebrate a holiday dedicated to everyone’s favorite drink: National Margarita Day! It will also keep you warm for what is left of the winter season. According to Nielsen, the Margarita is America’s most popular cocktail, and Tequila Don Julio has a new recipe that’s perfect for you to serve, sip, and savor this February 22nd. It even has a spicy kick to it! Ready to start making this fun recipe?

In honor of this popular drink for National Margarita Day, TODAY Style Squad member and fellow blogger Lilliana Vasques has created the Watermelon Jalapeño Margarita. A mix of Tequila Don Julio Blanco, fresh watermelon & lime juice, and jalapeño simple syrup. This spicy pink cocktail is sure to help you melt those winter blues. Is it 5’clock yet?! Well, it is somewhere in the world, so let’s get this party started!

Watermelon Jalapeño Margarita

Margarita Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz Tequila Don Julio Blanco

4 oz Fresh Watermelon Juice

3/4 oz Fresh Lime Juice

1 tsp Jalapeño Simple Syrup* (or add to taste)

1 Thinly Sliced Jalapeño

Chili Lime Salt and Lime Wheel for Garnish

*Jalapeño Simple Syrup (JSS)

JSS Ingredients:

1 cup Sugar

            1 cup Water

            1 Jalapeño (slice lengthwise and remove half of the seeds and veins) 

            JSS Preparation:

  1. Combine sugar and water in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir until sugar dissolves.
  2. Add jalapeño slices and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 10-12 minutes.
  3. Remove saucepan from heat. Cover and allow jalapeños to steep for 10 minutes.
  4. Strain contents and let cool.

Margarita Preparation:

  1. Combine Tequila Don Julio Blanco, fresh watermelon juice, fresh lime juice, jalapeño simple syrup and a jalapeño slice into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well.
  2. Strain contents into a rocks glass with fresh ice and chili lime salt rim.
  3. Garnish with lime wheel.
