As a spontaneous traveler, I decided to embark on a solo female travel adventure to Turkey. While Turkey was not initially at the top of my bucket list (for fear based on nothing specific but media), I decided to take a chance and I’m so happy that I did! One of the most amazing (and random) moments I had while visiting there was Tandem paragliding in Oludeniz Turkey. Here is the full experience of how I even arrived at this moment and how I jumped from Babadag Mountains over that famous blue lagoon which is consider the best paragliding in Turkey!

My First time visiting Turkey

While visiting Istanbul for first time, I fell so in love with Turkey that I decided to stay longer than expected. What started as a week-long trip, turned into a two-month adventure. One day, while I was in Taksim, I was contacted by some travel vloggers friends who were also visiting Turkey. We were not staying far from each other and they were flying on that same day to Fethiye. Long story short, I packed my carry-on and decided to rush to meet them at the airport.

“This is the beauty of traveling solo and being able to make your own decisions quickly.”

Travel Mishaps – Missing my flight

After being stuck in traffic, I finally made it to the airport, but I missed the flight. Istanbul’s traffic is pretty crazy plus, this last minute planning did not help. Oh well, I was lucky enough to find another flight (praise the lord). Since I only paid $10 for the first booking, I was not that upset. In fact, I can report that flying around Turkey is pretty budget friendly! Next Stop: Fethiye!

As soon as I landed in Dalaman Airport, I looked for the Havaş airport shuttle bus, which took me from the airport directly to Fethiye. The ride took close to an hour and it cost 10TL, which is less than 3 dollars. Still pretty budget friendly! The more I read about Fethiye (thanks to Google) the more excited I became.

Where to Stay in Fethiye?

There are plenty of budget friendly places near the water. I highly recommend you to book your accommodations ahead of time, especially if you are traveling during high season. Fethiye is a popular destination so many times finding an affordable hotel/hostel close to your trip is difficult. Start looking for deals below!

Love at first sight!

My first impression of Fethiye was, “wow!” Spectacular views everywhere and with so much to do, I couldn’t wait to get started. Here’s my full experience of Tandem Paragliding in Oludeniz Turkey!

Paragliding in Oludeniz Turkey – Best paragliding in Turkey

How I jumped from Babadag Mountains over the famous blue lagoon?

I went on a day trip to Oludeniz (20-25 minutes away from Fethiye) with two of my friends from the Global Degree Travel Show who were traveling there as well. The day trip included swimming in the beautiful blue waters and, as a Caribbean girl, when I tell you blue, I mean those were one of the most bluest waters I have ever seen in all of my travels. Stunning! I went on a boat ride and afterwards met some people on the beach who convinced me to join their planned paragliding adventure. Honestly, it wasn’t too hard to convince me, since paragliding was on my bucket list and Fethiye is known as the best place for paragliding in Turkey.

I wasn’t even dressed appropriately; I was wearing a dress over my swimsuit and open toes wedge shoes. But I reminded myself: Ready ~ Jetset ~ Go World! This is something that I’ve been saying for many years, to myself and others, and it always serves it’s purpose to strengthen resolve! Well, just so that you know, you cannot jump in wedges or heels. Luckily, my tandem instructor had extra shoes and he lent them to me so that I wasn’t left out.

First, we were driven all the way up to the top of the mountain. I cannot deny that going up wasn’t a little scary, but our driver was amazing. In my country of Puerto Rico, I know that mountain roads can be narrow and challenging. But with repetition comes expertise. Just had to trust the driver. NOTE: Do not let the instructor scare you; it’s their job to be there for you.

Once I was up there, everything happened so fast, that I didn’t even process it all until afterwards. Ironically, I was the first one to jump, since my tandem was the lead paragliding instructor. He got me ready so fast with his jacket, the helmet and all the equipment that when he told me to run with him and jump, when I least expected it, we were already in the air. I did not scream because I was not scared (or maybe a little stunned) but it was so smooth, it felt like I was just floating in the air between the clouds. Amazing!

As we floated, I concentrated on the views of the Babadag Mountains and especially those beautiful, blue waters, known as The Blue Lagoon. Wow, it really was spectacular! Between the ride, weather and view, all that was missing was a glass of wine. I felt so inspired and on top of the world (literally and figuratively)!

I totally recommend this experience to everyone. If you request it, which I did, they even do special tricks in the air, which are so much fun. I was so full of adrenaline during and after these tricks…it is hard to explain it all; you must experience it for yourself! Landing was easy and just as fast. The whole experience took a little over an hour and it was the best hour I’ve had in a long time. This is because my lead tandem instructor was waiting for the rest of the people and we stayed longer up in the air. In reality, usually the experience can take from half an hour to one hour depending on the weather.

Wondering what was the cost of this experience? – Paragliding in Oludeniz Price

Paragliding in Oludeniz Turkey’s price is around 80 euros per person. They accept cards or cash at Escape Adventures Turkey. All the instructors were very professional and took lots of safety methods. It is totally worthy in my opinion!
