You get to enjoy your own space, enjoy the comforts that you would enjoy at home, and have that home-from-home experience without having to get dressed to go down to breakfast like you would in a hotel! When you’re choosing the vacation rental to stay in, though, you will want to make sure that you are choosing one that is a good deal, as well as one that is ideal for you and suits the kind of traveling that you will be doing.
If you’re going to be working as well as traveling, then you’ll need the space to have good WiFi and at least a desk or dining room to work from. If you plan to be out all day, then you just need enough space to sleep in.

Decide what is important to you
Do you want to have lots of space to lounge around, or have a yard, swimming pool, or hot tub that you can use? Will there be children with you on your travels? Do you need to have a view of the ocean or a parking space? If you’re too fussy about what you are looking for, then it can make your options much wider, meaning that there is a wider range of choices and prices. For example, an apartment to rent in a city that is on a top floor where there is no elevator, is going to be cheaper than one on the ground floor.
If you’re not too bothered about having to use the stairs, then why not get a good deal that way? In warmer climates, look out for rental properties that have solar panels installed. Being flexible with your travel dates isn’t something that is always possible. However, it can help if you can afford to be. For example, if you want to visit a European country in the summer, then you will expect some high prices, as it is the peak season for travelers to the continent.
If you were to visit in spring or even winter, you will see that there is much less competition for a rental property, depending on the location, and means you’re much more likely to get a good deal. Many booking sites will allow you to view the costs for a property over an entire month, so that is definitely something to consider looking at in order to save some money.
Get clued up on descriptions and terminology
A lot of vacation rental descriptions can be quite fluffy and full of information, but do you understand what it all means? Some descriptions will mean that the rental is more luxurious or expensive than others, so you need to understand what all of the description and terminology means.
For example, do you know the difference between a beachfront property and an oceanfront property? If you’re expecting to just walk out onto the beach on the latter, then it won’t be the case.
A cabin for skiing that is described as having direct ski access is likely to mean that you’re close, but not that close, compared to one that is described as being ‘ski in and ski out.’ You should take time to do your research and check as many photos as you can (you can always ask the rental property owner for more if something isn’t clear). You want to make sure that you are getting exactly what you expect.Â
