Curling Your Eyelashes

A common mistake that a lot of women make is with their eyelash curling techniques. A lot of women just clamp down the curlers, count to three, and leave it that. This creates an unnatural crease in the eyelashes, and the curl is likely not to last very long.

Instead, you should try the pump technique. Start at the bash of your lashes. Pump the curler three times. Move to the middle section of the eyelashes and pump three times again. Lastly, pump three times at the tip of your lashes. With this trick, you’ll get a gorgeous sweep of lashes that will frame your eyes, and a curl that will last.

Fake Falsies With Baby Powder

If you love the way that false eyelashes look, but don’t have the time or the patience to apply them, skip the messing about with glue and tweezers in favour of something much easier to use; baby powder. Curl your eyelashes, and apply one coat of mascara. Then, dip a clean mascara wand or cotton bud into some baby powder. Sweep it along the underside of your eyelashes. Apply another coat of mascara. The mascara will stick to the baby powder, creating dark fibres that will make your lashes look fuller and longer. Get the look of falsies without the effort.

Dry Shampoo Technique

Dry shampoo is one of the best hacks in the beauty industry. It’s a great helper when you’re short on time and don’t have the time to wash or blow-dry your hair. While it’s a great addition to your bathroom cabinet, if you use it in the wrong way and don’t give it enough time to work, you can end up with white spots or hair that still looks oily.

Dry shampoo is basically a fine aerosol powder that will absorb extra oil when applied to the roots of the hair. It leaves a fresh scent, mimicking the effects of washing your hair.

For the best results, apply the dry shampoo heavily to your roots and work it in with your fingers in the same way as you would a normal shampoo. Give the dry shampoo five to ten minutes to absorb the excess oil from the hair. After that, brush your hair out, and it will look clean and shiny, with no giveaway white residue.

The Magic Three

Highlighting and shading your face is the best way to get a gorgeous look, but it can be complicated to do. With these products, you’re basically using makeup to carve out your cheekbones and highlight your best features. However, instead of trying to copy complex facial highlighting maps, make it easier with the magic three technique.

After you have put on your foundation, load your bronzer brush with product. Start on the left-hand side of the forehead, directly above your temple. Draw a backwards number three down the left side of your, coming in at the cheekbone halfway before your temple and nose, and again from the jawbone to just below the left corner of the mouth. Do the same on the right side of your face in a mirror image motion. This technique lets you apply bronzer to the places that are naturally exposed to the sun. Apply some highlighter to your cheekbones and you’re done.

Perfect Smoky Eyeliner

The smoky eye is a makeup classic. It’s a timeless look that can make your eyes really pop. The best trick to get it right is to avoid harsh lines and achieving the perfect smudge. If your eyeliner doesn’t cooperate with you when you do this, try heating it up a little in order to loosen the pigment. Using a lighter, hold it to the tip of your eyeliner for one or two seconds. Let it cool for fifteen seconds before applying. Smudge the line with a brush or your finger.

The classic smoky eye is black or grey, but this can be a bit heavy for an everyday look. If you want to wear a smoky eye during the day, choose a color that is less dramatic. For brown eyes, try navy. For blue or green eyes, plum will flatter your eye color.

Pouty Lips

There are lots of products on the market that promise to plump your lips up, but these generally have two main problems. First of all, these products work by irritating your lips, which can be uncomfortable and even painful. Secondly, they only deliver short-term effects. You can make your pout last longer by using a little eyeshadow for a volumizing effect. Apply your lipstick and then brush some shimmery ivory eyeshadow onto the center of your lips to create a 3D effect that makes them look fuller, with no need for special products or irritation. You can create the same effect with a clear gloss. Pair your new pout with well-cared-for teeth or veneers for a beautiful smile.

DIY Toner For Oily Skin

If you have dry skin and oily patches, you know that there aren’t many products that can tackle both at the same time. You either end up with breakouts or get chapped skin. Toner works to soak up any extra oil overnight and is perfect for evening out skin tone, texture, and color. If you mix up your own toner, you can tackle excess oil without drying out your skin.

Mix a half-cup of apple cider vinegar with one tablespoon of tea tree oil (you can find it in the vitamin section of your grocery store) and one cup of warm water in a clean spray bottle. Spray the toner onto a cotton pad and swipe it over your face in the morning and again in the evening. If your skin is oily, you can add more apple cider vinegar. If your skin is dry, add more tea tree oil, and follow it up with an oil-free moisturizer.

A bottle should last you a month, helping you to keep avoid breakouts and dry patches. If your skin is normal or combination, you can try green tea as a toner. Brew a cup, let it cool, and pour it into a spray bottle. This keeps for about a month and is great for soothing redness.

Making Scents Last

If you love a beautiful perfume but hate when it wears off within hours of putting it on, you’re not alone. When you’ve found a perfume you love, you want it to last longer. A scent that doesn’t last might not be a formula issue, but a placement issue.

Your fragrance should be applied to pulse points, like your wrists and neck. If you’re wearing shorts or a skirt, apply some to the back of your knees too.

If you like a more subtle fragrance, you can spray some perfume onto your hairbrush before you do your hair. Keep some fragrance free moisturizer on hand too. Mix a few drops of perfume into it and apply as normal. These techniques make a scent that is subtle but lasting.
